General Frequently Asked Questions

Ambulatory surgery centers are specialized medical facilities that provide same-day outpatient minimally invasive treatments and surgical procedures that don’t require a hospital stay.

East Norriton Surgical Center is an AAHA accredited Southeast Pennsylvania Ambulatory Surgery Center that offers minimally invasive surgery and surgical procedures

Minimally invasive surgery uses advanced diagnostic imaging technology and  specialized equipment to perform outpatient surgical procedures  that have smaller incisions, less pain medication afterward, fewer scars, and shorter 1-2 hour procedures that don’t require a hospital stay.  It also reduces recovery time and gets you back to your routine sooner. Chronic pain patients benefit most.

ENSC went through the comprehensive, extensive process of accreditation because of our commitment to provide exceptional outpatient care. We received accreditation through AAAHC, which goes above and beyond what the Dept of Health requires to operate an outpatient facility. In order to receive accreditation from them, a surveyor will spend a minimum of two days inspecting the facility, paperwork, and procedures performed. The facility must meet all the requirements to be accredited.

Emergencies are uncommon, but do happen. We require a thorough health history and patients are screened prior to a procedure. If an emergency does occur, there is an agreement with a local hospital to accept patients into the ER.

Before Your Surgery

To prepare for upcoming surgery, your physician will give you a brochure to read  for the procedure. All procedures are different and each is managed uniquely. A phone number will be available to reach someone with questions. A day or two before your procedure you will receive a phone call explaining all that is needed to be done for the patient to proceed.

Due to the effects of anesthesia it is not safe for a person to drive themselves home. A person can overestimate their ability to do simple activities. They should also have someone who can stay with them for the rest of the day/evening.

East Norriton Surgical Center provides local, moderate sedation and general anesthesia. The patient and their physician will discuss what is best for your procedure.

The Day of Your Surgery

Each procedure has a different recovery time based on invasiveness and anesthesia type.

Patients wake up on their own with a PACU nurse consistently monitoring.

Each patient will respond to different surgeries differently. There will be different restrictions based on the procedure, anesthesia type and future plan of action. There should not be an expectation to be cured upon wake-up nor be pain free.

The key difference between Langhorne and East Norriton is that East Norriton offers general anesthesia and Langhorne only offers sedation. But mostly, LOCATION, as most procedures are done with sedation.

Pain Management Patients

Chronic pain management is managing a patient’s pain when it continues over a period of time.

interventional pain management uses minimally invasive procedures to, quite literally, intervene and disrupt the signals of pain.
